Rail Wheel Factory is one of the few Railway units, which have achieved a high level of automation in the area of Information Processing in all business activities of the Office and the Factory. This has been achieved with the deployment of state-of-the-art technology for Business Applications and with the regular upgradation of the IT infrastructure. RWF IT is the one of its kind on Indian Railways as the information process is on-line and various modules of data processing are integrated to share data amongst each other. RWF has a Local Area Network (LAN), which spans across the factory, administrative building and Hospital.
The MIS centre of RWF, which was started in 1985. With the technological advances in the field of Information technology, RWF was able to set up a LAN and deploy business applications, which could map all the business activities of RWF to Computer programs. LAN and INTERNET are owned and maintained by MIS center(EDP Center) under FA&CAO.
IT Centre of RWF plays a pivotal and crucial role in running business applications in Local Area Network (LAN) and Internet. RWF’s LAN based business applications are tailor made and is integrated, robust and running 24/7. Entire workflow of the shop floor right from Production, Planning & Control, manufacturing, maintenance, Costing, Sale and supply of finished goods to Wagon builders, Railway and Non-Railway Customers, etc are being dealt in RWF LAN. The work flow for manufacturing of Wheels, Axles and Wheel sets are automated and online on real time basis and the same are being dealt on RWF’s LAN.
In addition to this, IT Centre is also handling admin function of other crucial applications such as e-office, Ipas and assists the RWF users for resolving their issues in smooth functioning of CRIS applications such as IPAS, iMMS, IREPS, HRMS, HMIS and other Govt. sites such as GeM, etc, which are the prime requisites in today’s working.
Internet:
Railnet and Internet connectivity has been provided on an independent 65 Mbps Internet bandwidth through Railtel to office. This facility has been extended to officers of East colony and to senior subordinates of West colony on existing Railway telephones lines using DSL technology. This has facilitated all the officers and sub ordinates to browse the net and update their technical skills. Wi-Fi Officers Rest House, East Colony made in to Wi-Fi zone.
RWF website:
RWF website which was initially deployed on the Web during 1997 was revamped and redesigned, keeping in view the needs of its customers, suppliers and employees. The redesigned RWF website was deployed in 2007. The current website with URL “rwf.indianrailways.gov.in” has lot of user-friendly features such as suppliers and contractors bill status, daily despatch details. WTA Compliance, NRC (Non-Railway Customer) compliance, holiday home availability. Besides, using the website CVC guidelines are also being followed by regularly posting all tender documents along with specifications, drawings and schedules. Checklists for contractors and supplier bills, brouchers and applications for vendor registration, status of appointments of special categories like sports, scouts etc., are also provided on the website. Web-based E-Mail facility has also been provided to all officers and key staff member.
